Northern Colorado vs. New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, November 4. THE University of New Mexico swimming and diving team defeated Northern Colorado earlier this evening, 136-102. The Lobos placed first in eight of the thirteen events in the dual meet against the Bears. New Mexico picks up its second win of the season, improving its record to 2-4.

The Lobos' divers had a strong showing to accompany New Mexico's success in the pool, as junior Aubrey Bush placed first in the 1-meter springboard with a final score of 304.20. Megan Harper had the strongest performance of her freshman season, winning on the 3-meter board with a final score of 324.75. New Mexico swept first, second, and third on the 3-meter and took first, third, and fourth in the 1-meter.

Freshman Heidi Zeiger continues to have a great season, taking first in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:47.10. Zeiger bested the field by more than eight seconds.

Monica Dudley also stood out for the Lobos, placing first in both the 200-yard freestyle with a final time of 2:00.23, and 500-yard freestyle finishing in 5:11.72. Her sister and teammate Maria Dudley took second.

"I am very satisfied with the way we swam today," said Lobo swimming and diving coach Tracy Ljone. "We had a solid performance and swam well."

Junior Tesse Maciejko took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25:05, as did senior Nanette Wittenberg in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:14.58.

"With how we performed we will be able to get a good night's sleep before we head into Wyoming, which will also be our last dual meet of the (fall) season," Ljone said. "The team will be physically tired tomorrow, but that's how they should feel at the mid-point of the year."

New Mexico will take on Wyoming tomorrow at 5 p.m. MT in Laramie in what will be their last dual meet of the fall season. Final scores and recap will be posted on Golobos.com following the conclusion of the meet.
