Kenyon vs. Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio, October 28. THE Ohio State men's swimming team launched its regular season with a 174-84 victory over Division III power Kenyon College Friday in a meet at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

"It's great to see some good competition again. I thought our team competed well and raced well tonight. The most important thing we wanted to do was to get a lot of people a lot of swims," said Ohio State head coach Bill Wadley. "Overall, I'm very pleased with our effort tonight, especially the freshmen."

Duplicate winners for the Buckeyes were senior Andrew Elliott in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and as the leadoff of the 200 medley relay; freshman Tamas Gercsak in the 200 butterfly, 200 breaststroke and 200 IM; sophomore Alex Miller in the 500 and 100 free. Senior Lincoln Fahrbach won the 100 butterfly and was part of the victorious 200 medley relay, as was freshman Keanu Stevenson, who also won the 100 breaststroke.

Kenyon won the men's 200 freestyle relay. The score at the mid-point break was Ohio State 108, Kenyon 23.

The Buckeyes hold an alumni vs. varsity swim tomorrow at 3 p.m. The next meet comes next Friday, November 4, against Cleveland State, Denison and Virginia Tech in a 6 p.m. meet at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeye women will also be swimming in that meet.

The Ohio State women's swimming team began the regular season with a 176.5-83.5 victory over Division III power Kenyon College Friday night at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

"We're very pleased with tonight's results," said Ohio State head coach Bill Dorenkott. "It's a good indicator of where we're at by this point in the season with our training. Kelly Titus had a solid 100 breaststroke and 500 free. Overall, we're just showing more consistency."

Duplicate winners for the Buckeyes were Jackie Brousseau in the 50 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and on the 200 free relay; Phoebe Cater in the 200 freestyle and the 200 medley and 200 free relays; Megan Detro in the 500 free and the 200 free relay; and Shannon Draves in the 200 IM and 200 free relay..

Kenyon's individual race victory came in the 200 butterfly, won by Hannah Saiz in 2:04.58.

The Buckeyes compete again next Friday, November 4, hosting Cleveland State, Denison and Virginia Tech in a 6 p.m. meet at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeye men will also be swimming in that meet.
