Pfeiffer vs. Milligan, King

MISENHEIMER, North Carolina, October 23. THE Pfeiffer University men and women's swim teams put together a complete weekend of action on Friday and Saturday in the Merner Pool. On Friday, the women scored a 117-58 win over Queens while both teams swept Milligan and King on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Falcons started off Friday with a pair of relay wins against the Royals while Samantha Maness and Morgan Dionne scored the first individual wins in the 1000-yard free and the 200 free. Jillian Kniffen followed that up with a win in the 200 individual medley while Yukina Onoda notched a win in the 100 backstroke in front of Maness' second victory edging out Dionne in the 500 free. Kniffen added another win late in the 100 breaststroke.

On the men's side, Queens took the lone victory of the weekend by a visiting team in a 121-76 tight decision. After close finishes in the runner-up spot for the first half of the meet, Charlie Melesh tallied the Falcons first and lone win in the 100 breaststroke. Six races in the men's lineup had less than three seconds of separation at the top of the charts.

Saturday's meet ended with a pair of wins on both sides as the women defeated King 57-38 and Milligan 74-21. The Falcon men victories were 74-19 over King and 70-25 taking on Milligan.

The Lady Falcons racked up seven wins on Saturday starting with the 400 medley relay of Onoda, Kniffen, Brittney Quaranto and Haley Carter followed up by another weekend win by Dionne in the 1000 free. Maness claimed another victory in the 200 IM while Onoda picked up another win by less than a second in the 100 backstroke. Maness and Carter ended the individual wins in the 500 free and 100 breaststroke.

The men performed very well on Saturday with wins in eight different events. The 400 medley relay of Melesh, Jim Roddenbery, Andrew Corley and Mark Franz began the day with a win before Cory Pooley and Edwin Torres scored individual wins in the 1000 and 200 free. Melesh and Corley followed by claiming the top spots in the 200 IM and 100 fly in front of Torres grabbing a win in the 100 free by .11 seconds. Roddenbery notched the final individual win of the day before the Falcons closed it out in the 400 freestyle relay.

Up next for the swim teams will be another tri-match with Wingate and Brenau on Friday night before the Boo Bash Relays at Catawba on Saturday.
