Akron vs. Pittsburgh

AKRON, Ohio, October 22. THE University of Akron's swimming and diving team fell to the Pittsburgh Panthers Friday night by a count of 168-131 at Ocasek Natatorium.

The Zips posted a pair of first-place finishes in the swimming event. Katie Miles took the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.58 and Catherine Carr won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:04.93.

The diving squad finished with the top three divers in the 3-meter springboard. Carla McNamara, Amanda Angeloff and Leeanna Hoover finished with scores of 270.90, 269.10 and 261.23 respectively.

UA placed second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.71. Kelsea Cross, Kendra Colby, Catherine Carr and Margaret Finnerty were on the second place squad.

Kelsea Cross had a good showing in the 100-yad backstroke, finishing second in a time of 58.74.

Carr added another second place finish when she posted a time of 2:06.80 in the 200-yard butterfly.

The Zips will return to the pool next Friday at Oakland.
