Hillsdale vs. Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio, October 16. THE Hillsdale College women's swimming team made its 2010-11 season debut Saturday afternoon in Ashland University's pool. The Chargers came out on the short end of a 194-89 score, at the hands of the Eagles.

One of the highlights for the Chargers came from sophomore Sarah Leitner, who won the 200 yard freestyle event with a time of 1:58.75. She won the race by just .04 of a second over Ashland's Jenna Lindner.

Leitner also touched the wall first in the 500 yard freestlye, winning again by a slim margin, with a time of 5:19.25.

Junior Linda Okonkowski, a two-time national qualifier, finished in second place in the 200 yard butterfly (2:12.95). Charger swimmers took three of the top five places in the 50 yard freestyle, led by freshman Hayley Johnson, who was second in her collegiate debut in the event, finishing with a time of 25.33. Lauren Burt and Katie Lamb were also top-five placers in that event.
