LARAMIE, Wyoming, October 15. THE University of Wyoming Swimming and Diving team hosted its first dual of the 2010-11 season on Friday, with both the Cowboys and Cowgirls defeating the Mesa State Mavericks.

"This was a meet we were able to have some fun with and we could swim some off events and put different people in relays that normally aren't in those," Wyoming head swimming coach Tom Johnson said. "We have some of our kids who will be swimming a lot of events tomorrow in Denver so I tried to lay off them and get some other kids in their places."

The Cowboys and Cowgirls both started the dual with wins in the 400 medley relay and never looked back.

The Cowgirls won ten individual events during today's dual. The meet started with Casey Robinson winning the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:56.14. Paige Fischer won the 200 free with a time of 1:59.35. The Cowgirls were defeated in the 100 backstroke by Jaclyn McMillen of Mesa State, but Mackenzie Norlin was just nine-tenths of a second behind her with a time of 1:01.79. Smith was not the only Cowgirl to excel this evening, Virginia Marcon won the 3-meter spring board with a score of 267.75. Cowboy seniors Mark Murdock and Kyle Bogner both dove well on the one and three meter boards taking first and second on each respectively.

"For Allie to come in and perform like that was outstanding," Wyoming diving coach Pat Bukowski said. "We came out a little sluggish but once the crowd got here we really seemed to dive well."

"I think the coolest thing I saw tonight was the crowd, I am not sure if I have ever seen a crowd like this and I know our kids really perform well when this place is packed," added Johnson.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will now travel to Denver to take part in the Denver Relays tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.
