World Cup, Beijing: Day Two Prelims

BEIJING, China, October 12. THE second day of short course meter prelim racing is complete at the World Cup stop in Beijing.

Men's 1500 free slower heat
Ma Yuyao posted the top time with a 15:55.84, while Wen Wei took second in 16:41.67. Ge Yu also swam in the early heat with a 16:50.32.

Women's 100 free
Ye Shiwen posted the top time with a 53.91 to move to eighth in the early world rankings. The Netherlands' Hinkelien Schreuder placed second in 54.42 to grab 15th in the rankings, while Germany's Dorothea Brandt took third in 55.16.

Yu Yao (55.88), Zhang Jiaqi (55.93), Liu Xinyi (55.96), Han Tingru (56.05) and Liu Lan (56.45) placed fourth through eighth.

Men's 200 free
Russia's Mikhail Polishchuk paced prelims with a time of 1:48.96, while Hu Yue earned second in 1:49.20. South Africa's Darian Townsend (1:49.34) and New Zealand's Michael Jack (1:49.36) picked up third and fourth.

Zhang Enjian (1:49.41), Zhang Zhongchao (1:49.70), Hou Mingda (1:50.14) and Jiang Tiansheng (1:50.35) made up the rest of the championship field.

Women's 50 breast
There were not enough swimmers for a preliminary session.

Men's 100 breast
Xie Zhi cleared 1:00 for the top seed with a 59.72. Japan's Naoya Tomita (1:00.48) and Kazuki Otsuka (1:00.53) qualified second and third.

Brazil's Henrique Barbosa (1:00.64), South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh (1:00.95), Russia's Grigory Falko (1:01.61), Ma Xiang (1:01.62) and Ma Junfei (1:01.82) comprised the rest of the finale.

Men's 100 fly
Japan's Kohei Kawamoto raced to the best time with a 53.49, while South Africa's Lyndon Ferns (53.68), Brazil's Frederico Castro (53.76), Zhang Zishan (53.76) and Hu Chao (53.89) cleared 54 seconds to qualify second through fifth.

Sweden's Lars Frolander (54.59), Germany's Steffen Deibler (54.70) and Chen Yanlong (55.13) picked up the final transfer spots.

Women's 100 back
Gao Chang cleared 1:00 with the swiftest time in prelims of 59.92. Rao Shengxue (1:01.02), Bai Anqi (1:01.23) and Germany's Jenny Mensing (1:01.57) placed second through fourth.

Cheng Haihua (1:01.77), Zhang Siqi (1:02.65), Yuan Tian (1:02.94) and Japan's Wakana Hirai (1:03.00) qualified fifth through eighth in qualifying.

Men's 50 back
Russia's Arkady Vyatchanin (24.70), Brazil's Guilherme Guido (24.72), Zhang Yu (24.96) and Japan's Kazuki Watanabe (25.07) finished first through fourth.

USA's Peter Marshall (25.26), Duan Qiong (25.75), Singapore's Rainer Ng (25.86) and Xu Jianyu (26.12) qualified fifth through eighth in the sprint back.

Women's 200 fly
There were not enough swimmers for a preliminary session.

Men's 200 IM
South Africa's Darian Townsend topped prelims with a 2:01.36, while Huang Yunkun took second in 2:02.01. Sun Han (2:02.11), Brazil's Thiago Pereira (2:02.80) and Mao Feilian (2:02.92) touched third through fifth.

Huang Lincheng (2:03.99), Ni Zhanpeng (2:04.24) and Jin Yan (2:05.73) captured the final spots in the championship field.

Women's 400 free
Zhu Qianwei raced to the top seed with a 4:11.06, while Wang Xinyu (4:12.45) and Kong Xiangtong (4:13.26) pocketed second and third in qualifying.

Liu Jing (4:14.21), Zheng Qianqian (4:14.53), Han Tingru (4:14.61), Chen Shiyun (4:15.41) and Rne Luomeng (4:16.74) also made their way to the finale.

Men's 50 free
South Africa's Roland Schoeman led the way with a 21.85, while Sweden's Stefan Nystrand placed second in 21.88. Both moved into the top 15 in the early world rankings. Li Zhiwu (22.11) and South Africa's Lyndon Ferns (22.14) touched third and fourth.

Germany's Steffen Deibler (22.15), Russia's Sergey Fesikov (22.26), Shi Yang (22.39) and Chen Zuo (22.53) snared the rest of the championship heat spots.

Women's 100 IM
USA's Julia Smit posted a top time of 1:01.19 to move to fourth in the early world rankings, while Xue Jiao placed second in 1:01.42 for eighth in the rankings. The Netherlands' Hinkelien Schreuder (1:03.05) and Chen Huijia (1:03.20) finished third and fourth.

Zhang Jiaqi (1:03.91), Yu Yao (1:04.99), Germany's Kerstin Vogel (1:05.04) and Cheng Haihua (1:05.47) rounded out the top eight.

Men's 200 back
Russia's Arkady Vyatchanin posted the strongest time of the morning with a 1:58.91, while South Africa's George Du Rand touched second in 1:59.25. Japan's Kazuki Watanabe (2:00.02) and Zhang Yu (2:00.36) placed third and fourth.

Zhao Feng (2:01.17), Xu Jiayu (2:01.33), Brazil's Guilherme Guido (2:01.67) and Singapore's Rainer Ng (2:01.84) completed the championship field.

Women's 50 fly
Sweden's Therese Alshammar paced the field with a 26.44, while USA's Elaine Breeden placed second in 26.62. Ling Shuyuan (26.77) and The Netherland's Hinkelien Schreuder (26.86) finished third and fourth.

Liu Lan (27.26), Liu Xinyi (28.10), Deng Biying (28.10) and Gong Jie (28.31) garnered the rest of the championship finale slots.
