Pan Pacific Championships: Korea’s Tae Hwan Park Defends 400 Free Title – Coverage Sponsored by TYR

IRVINE, California, August 20. KOREA's Tae Hwan Park won the men's 400 free going away with the top-ranked time in the world at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Park clocked a time of 3:44.73 to move ahead of China's Zhang Lin (3:44.91) for first in the world. Meanwhile, Park defended his Pan Pac title from 2006, when he won the race in 3:45.72.

Canada's Ryan Cochrane picked up second-place honors in 3:46.78 to move to sixth in the world rankings, while Zhang took third in 3:46.91 to complete the podium. Zhang took silver back in 2006 with a time of 3:47.07, but could not replicate the finish this year.

USA's Peter Vanderkaay (3:47.11) and Charlie Houchin (3:47.98) took fourth and fifth, while Japan's Takeshi Matsuda earned sixth in 3:49.10. Australia's Robert Hurley (3:49.36) and Japan's Junpei Higashi (3:51.90) completed the rest of the top eight. USA's Michael Klueh won the B final in 3:50.36
