Pan Pacific Championships: Ryan Cochrane Closes First Night With 1500 Free Victory – Coverage Sponsored by TYR

IRVINE, California, August 18. CANADA's Ryan Cochrane posted a commanding conquest in the men's 1500 free to end the first night of action at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Cochrane clocked a time of 14:49.47 to take the top time in the world by a wide margin. Sebastien Rouault owned the previously top-ranked time of 14:55.17 set at the European Championships . Cochrane also became the first Canadian to win the men's 1500 free at Pan Pacs.

USA's Chad La Tourette finished second overall in 14:54.48 to move to second in the world, while China's Zhang Lin earned third in 14:58.90 to become just the sixth man under 15:00 this year.

USA's Sean Ryan took fourth in 15:06.34, while teammate Andrew Gemmell placed fifth in 15:07.51. USA's Michael Klueh (15:12.04), USA's Arthur Frayler (15:12.89) and defending champion Tae Hwan Park of Korea (15:13.91) earned the rest of the top eight finishes.
