USMS Records Fall at Masters Dixie Zone Champs

AUBURN, Ala. April 26. THE Fourth Annual Auburn Masters Short Course Invitational was designated
the Dixie Zone Championship. The meet, held February 17-18, 2001, attracted 205 swimmers.

Dynamo Swim Club Masters emerged as the overall and large-team champions with 1,435.50 points. Leading the mid-sized teams were Pirate Swimmers with 1,114 points. Crimson Tide Aquatics won small-team honors and were fourth overall with 972.50 points.

National USMS records were set for seven individual events and one relay event.

Romain Barnier of Auburn Masters Swimmers set new standards for men aged 19-24 in four individual events, including the 100 IM (50.14), and the 100,200, and 500 free (43.89, 1:37.60, 4:29.67).

Oswaldo Quevedo, also of Auburn Masters Swimmers, set a new record for men 19-24 in the 100 fly (49.80).

In the 25-29 age group, Lionel Moreau of Auburn Masters Swimmers set new National USMS records in the 400 IM (3:59.05) and 500 free (4:26.87).

Barnier, Quevedo, and Moreau were joined by oldster Rich Hughey (37 yrs old) to establish a new record in the 200 free relay for men 19+ (1:23.04).
