Canadian Long Course Nationals: Chelsey Salli Turns In Quick 50 Breast

VICTORIA, British Columbia, July 30. THE third night of swimming is in the books at the Canadian Long Course Nationals.

Chelsey Salli won the women's 50 breast in a swift time of 31.77. That performance jumped her into a 20th-place tie with China's Wang Qun in the world rankings. Tianna Rissling finished second in 31.91, while Tera Van Beilen placed third in 31.92. Erica Morningstar just missed the podium with a fourth-place 31.96. Warren Barnes earned the men's 50 breast crown in 28.16, while Scott Dickens took second in 28.26. Jason Block rounded out the top three in 28.69.

Alexa Komarnycky won the women's 400 free in 4:12.00, while Samantha Cheverton took second in 4:12.71. Stephanie Horner completed the podium with a third-place 4:14.88. Australia's Ellen Fullerton, swimming in the B final as an international swimmer, won in 4:12.87. Ryan Cochrane snared the men's 400 free title in 3:52.84, while Jeremy Bagshaw touched second in 3:53.28. Brian Johns wound up third in 3:54.15. France's Xavier Lepretre topped the B final in 3:54.32.

Katerine Savard claimed the women's 100 fly in 59.80, while Audrey Lacroix took second in 59.97. Noemie Thomas, 14, finished third overall in 1:00.45. Australia's Amy Smith won the B final in 1:00.37. Joe Bartoch hit the wall in 53.70 to win the men's 100 fly. Karl Wolk (55.01) and Stefan Hirniak (55.22) finished second and third. Australia's Grant Irvine snared the B final in 53.91.

Sinead Russell just missed the World Top 25 with a winning 2:11.38 in the women's 200 back. Dominique Bouchard took second in 2:11.68, while Genevieve Cantin placed third in 2:12.10. Matt Hawes touched out Tobias Oriwol, 1:59.85 to 1:59.90, in the men's 200 back. Matthew Swanston grabbed third in 2:00.92.

Club Natation's Victoria Poon, Hannah Riordan, Barbara Jardin and Genevieve Saumur won the women's 400 free relay in 3:42.76 to beat the Australian quartet of Merindah Dingjan, Belinda Parslow, Fullerton and Jade Neilsen's second-place 3:44.05. Australia's Matthew Abood, Luke Kerswell, Lachlan Staples and Kirk Palmer claimed the men's 400 free relay in a close battle with a 3:20.26. UBC Dolphins Brent Hayden, Tommy Gossland, Brian Johns and Rory Biskupski took second in 3:20.64.
