Arizona Senior State Championships: Tyler Messerschmidt Wins Four, Amanda Beard Competes in Prelims

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 12. PHOENIX Swim Club hosted the Arizona Senior Long Course State Championships this weekend.

Amanda Beard continued her return from maternity leave this weekend. Beard, with husband Sacha Brown, son Blaise and even actor Frankie Muniz in tow, swam prelims only during the weekend. She topped the women's 200 breast prelim round with a 2:35.73. She also qualified fourth in the women's 100 breast with a 1:12.55.

Tyler Messerschmidt won the men's 50 back in 27.87 then returned to claim the men's 100 free in 52.35 on day one. He came back on the final day for his third title with a 23.83 in the men's 50 free, then grabbed the men's 100 back title for his fourth triumph in 58.77.

Swimming World's own Jeff Commings, 36, won a pair of events in his specialty breaststroke. Commings won the men's 100 breast in 1:06.09. He also claimed the men's 50 breast crown in 29.68 after clocking a 29.62 in prelims. Commings also placed third in the men's 100 back with a 1:00.95.

Tyler Pennington captured the men's 400 free in 4:07.87, then doubled up with a 4:35.64 in the men's 400 IM to sweep the individual medleys. Pennington followed in the men's 200 fly with a winning 2:07.54.

Kacey Milligan earned the women's 100 fly in 1:03.96, then walked away with the women's 400 IM title in 5:01.34. Her third title came in the women's 200 fly with a top time of 2:18.18.

Barrett Miesfeld won the men's 100 fly in 57.14. He returned the second day with a victory in the men's 50 fly with a 25.64. Katelyn Weddle won the women's 200 breast in 2:32.56, and also earned a victory in the women's 50 breast with a 31.47.

Traycie Swartz won the women's 50 fly in 29.02. She returned with another sprint victory when she topped the women's 50 free in 26.86. Madi Bridges topped the women's 50 back in 30.05. She doubled up on the final day with a 1:04.95 to win the women's 100 back.

Among the men, Robert Barrett won the men's 200 IM in 2:10.61, while Brian Ferro claimed the men's 200 breast in 2:23.61. Juan Flores wound up with the win in the men's 200 free in 1:54.45, while Rhett Wallace earned the men's 200 back in 2:10.89.

For the women, Megan Cox won the women's 200 IM in 2:24.14, while Danielle Lee claimed the women's 200 back in 2:20.06. Ashley Evans hit the wall in 2:06.28 in the women's 200 free for the win, while Ally Loper snared the women's 400 free in 4:25.16. Kelli Benjamin touched first in the women's 100 free in 58.14, while Lindsey Laporte claimed the women's 1500 free in 17:24.83.
