Hungarian Long Course Nationals: Laszlo Cseh, Gergo Kis Win Four Titles, Daniel Gyurta Posts Sterling 200 Breast

EGER, Hungary, July 10. THE Hungarian Long Course Nationals featured plenty of multiple winners including four spots from Laszlo Cseh and Gergo Kis. Meanwhile, Evelyn Verraszto topped three events, while Daniel Gyurta likely had the best single swim of the meet with a sterling time in the men's 200 breast.

Cseh jumped into an 18th-ranked tie with Ryan Pini in the men's 100 fly with a winning time of 52.66. Cseh also claimed the men's 50 back with a 26.48. In an exciting finish, Cseh pocketed his third title of the meet with a 1:57.60 to 1:57.94 triumph over Bence Biczo in the men's 200 fly. Both have been faster this year with Cseh owning a 14th-ranked 1:56.88, while Biczo is 25th in the world with a 1:57.82. Cseh's fourth victory of the meet came in the men's 200 IM with a swift 1:59.14. He just missed his fourth-ranked season-best clocking of 1:59.01 set in June on the Mare Nostrum tour.

Kis won an exciting battle with Cseh in the men's 400 IM, 4:13.22 to 4:13.40. Kis moved to third in the world with the swim, while Cseh just missed his second-ranked time of 4:13.08. Kis also captured the men's 800 free in 8:01.33, short of his ninth-ranked 7:58.32 from April. Kis picked up his third title with a 3:51.71 in the men's 400 free after just making the finale in eighth place (4:09.27). Kis finished the meet with his fourth individual title with a 15:25.21 in the men's 1500 free. That performance fell 10 seconds short of his season best 15:15.18 from April that is ranked 15th in the world.

Verraszto moved up to a 17th-place tie in the world rankings in the women's 100 free with a triumphant effort of 54.87. Her second conquest came in the women's 400 free with a top time of 4:12.28. Verraszto finished the meet with a season-best time in the women's 200 IM. She clocked a 2:12.62 for the win to improve upon her already 16th-ranked effort of 2:12.67 from June. She still stands behind Dagny Knutson (2:12.61) for 15th in the world.

Gyurta jumped up to fourth in the world in the men's 200 breast with a sterling time of 2:10.47 for the win. He also snatched the men's 100 breast title in 1:01.55.

Several other swimmers claimed more than one individual title throughout the meet.

Among the women, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who has the 12th-ranked time in the women's 200 fly with a 2:08.80 from June, won the event in 2:10.07 this weekend. Jakabos then won the women's 200 breast in 2:35.19. Eszter Dara won the women's 100 back in 1:02.79. Dara then doubled up with a 50 back triumph in 29.42. Dara completed a meet trifecta with a victory in the women's 100 fly when she clocked a 59.32. Agnes Mutina got her hand on the wall first in the women's 800 free with an 8:39.51. She returned in the 200 free with a winning time of 1:58.84. She's been faster this year with a ninth-ranked 1:57.71 from April.

For the men, Peter Bernek cleared 2:00 for the win in the men's 200 back with a 1:59.22. Bernek snatched his second title with a 56.14 in the men's 100 back. Dominik Kozma topped the men's 200 free in 1:50.43. He also won the men's 100 free in 50.04 later in the meet. Krisztian Takacs raced to victory in the men's 50 free with a 22.51. Takacs held off Cseh, 24.46 to 24.62, for the men's 50 fly on the final day.

Individual triumphs also occurred. Richard Bodor earned the men's 50 breast crown in 28.36.

Meanwhile, Boglarka Kapas completed the meet with a winning time of 16:53.77 in the women's 1500 free, while Dorina Szekeres eased through the women's 200 back with a winning 2:13.78.

Julia Fehervari picked up the women's 50 free in 26.46, while Anna Sztankovics claimed the women's 100 breast title in 1:11.73.

Reka Gyorgy took home the women's 400 IM title in 4:53.11, while Beatrix Bordas topped the women's 50 fly in 27.06 and Krisztina Kovacs claimed the women's 50 breast in 33.02.
