German Long Course Nationals: Daniela Samulski, Daniela Schreiber, Hendrik Feldwehr Clock Swift Time in Prelims

BERLIN, Germany, July 1. WHILE finals of the men's 200 IM and women's 400 IM featured titles being awarded, the top swims of the day came during preliminary qualifying heats at the German Long Course Nationals held in Berlin.

In prelims, Daniela Samulski and Daniela Schreiber both shot up the world rankings in the women's 100 free with matching top-seeded times of 54.56. That effort jumped the duo into a fifth-place tie in the rankings behind only Ranomi Kromowidjojo (53.44), Femke Heemskerk (54.19), Dana Vollmer (54.30) and Fran Halsall (54.52). Silke Lippok qualified third in 54.74 to vault into a 12th-place tie in the rankings with Jessica Hardy.

Samulski returned in the women's 50 back heats with a sterling time of 28.17. That effort moved up to sixth in the world, a two-slot improvement from her previous eighth-ranked season best of 28.31.

Hendrik Feldwehr, also in preliminary heats, vaulted to third in the world in the men's 50 breast with a top-seeded time of 27.50. Only Kosuke Kitajima (27.30) and Brenton Rickard (27.40) have been faster so far this year. He previously ranked 12th in the world with a 27.92 from the Monaco stop of the Mare Nostrum. Kerstin Vogel followed in the women's 50 breast qualifying heats with a 31.67 to tie for 13th in the world rankings. Giulia De Ascentis put up her 31.67 in March.

Markus Deibler won the men's 200 IM in a time of 2:00.79, moving to 16th in the world rankings this year. Jan David Schepers finished second overall in 2:01.32, while Tim Wallburger earned third-place honors in 2:01.45. Meanwhile, Juliane Reinhold topped the women's 400 IM in 4:43.68. Nina Schiffer (4:43.91) and Katharina Schiller (4:48.80) completed the podium with second and third-place efforts.

In preliminary action, Steffen Deibler led qualifying in the men's 100 free with a 49.48, while Markus Deibler (49.78) and Paul Biedermann (49.90) also cleared 50 seconds. Steffen Deibler also led the way in the men's 100 fly with a 54.18. Sina Sutter paced the women's 100 fly heats with a 1:00.29, while Annika Mehlhorn qualified second in 1:00.54.

Franziska Jansen topped qualifying in the women's 400 free with a 4:16.65 with Jaana Ehmcke touching second in 4:16.79. Additionally, Dominik Keil earned the top seed in the men's 50 back with a 26.31.
