Ryan Murphy Lowers Aaron Peirsol’s 13-14 U.S. National Age Group Record in 100 Back

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, June 28. RYAN Murphy, who swims for the Bolles School, demolished the U.S. National Age Group record for 13-14 year olds in the 100-meter backstroke this weekend.

At the TYR Summer Classic, Murphy turned in a blazing fast time of 57.76. That effort downed one of backstroke king Aaron Peirsol's many NAG records. Peirsol had owned the previous mark with a 57.99 set back in 1998.

Murphy now owns the following long course meter NAG records: 10&u 100 back (1:11.01), 11-12 200 back (2:13.91) and 11-12 200 fly (2:14.40) along with his newest record in the 13-14 division.

Murphy has been flirting with this particular record since the 2009 Junior Nationals when he clocked a 58.59. Earlier this month, he turned in a 58.49 in the 2010 Santa Clara International, before put together the record swim a week shy of his 15th birthday at the TYR Summer Classic. Murphy just missed his shot at Peirsol's other 1998 13-14 NAG in the 200 back of 2:02.78 with a 2:02.86 this weekend.
