USA Swimming Grand Prix, Santa Clara: Elizabeth Beisel Shines, Several Swimmers Post World-Ranked Times

SANTA CLARA, California, June 19. THE third evening of long course meter action at the USA Swimming Grand Prix held in Santa Clara featured some swift times going into the ledger.

Bluefish's Elizabeth Beisel won the women's 400 IM in 4:39.12 to improve upon her 10th-ranked season best of 4:39.32 set in Charlotte in May. Island's Alexa Komarnycky took second in 4:42.21, while California's Caitlin Leverenz earned third in 4:42.28.

Cal's Nathan Adrian posted a 22.32 in the men's 50 free to grab 17th in the world rankings in the splash-and-dash. Adam Brown placed second in 23.12, while Tucson Ford's Matt Grevers finished third in 23.16.

Ryan Lochte turned in a time of 1:58.74 in the men's 200 back to move into 18th in the world rankings. Grevers snatched second in 1:59.77 for his second podium of the evening, while Austin Surhoff wound up third in 2:01.24.

Terrapins' Presley Bard vaulted to 23rd in the world with a 1:01.24 in the women's 100 back. Australia's Grace Loh placed second in 1:01.61, while Beisel picked up her second podium of the night with a third-place 1:02.21.

Tucson Ford's Masayuki Kishida snatched the men's 100 fly title in 53.27. California's David Russell touched second in 53.59, while Brazil's Kaio Almeida grabbed third in 53.65.

Walnut Creek's Kasey Carlson captured the women's 100 breast with a time of 1:09.13. Keri Hehn wound up second in 1:10.14, while Santa Barbara's Katlin Freeman garnered third in 1:10.60.

Australia went 1-2 in the men's 400 free. Patrick Murphy touched in 3:52.98 for the win, while Robert Hurley finished second in 3:53.63. Trojan's Dominik Meichtry clinched third in 3:53.74.

ASK's Dagny Knutson won the women's 200 free in 1:58.82. The time fell short of her seventh-ranked season best of 1:57.83 set in May. Karlee Bispo took a distant second in 2:00.23, while Tucson Ford's Leone Vorster claimed third in 2:01.06.
