Dutch Long Course Nationals: Joeri Verlinden, Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Bastiaan Lijesen Set Meet Records

EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands, June 13. THREE meet records went down during the second day of action at the Dutch Long Course Nationals.

Joeri Verlinden lowered the meet record in the men's 100 fly with a 52.88. That effort dropped the 53.08 he set a year ago. The time nearly cleared Verlinden's 11th-ranked season-best time of 52.48 from March. Robin van Aggele touched second in 54.20, while Jurjen Willemsen wound up third in 55.41.

Top-ranked women's sprint freestyler Ranomi Kromowidjojo demonstrated some versatility with a meet-record time in the women's 50 back. She clocked a 28.76 that dipped under the 28.94 set by Hinkelien Schreuder back in 2005. The time also moved Kromowidjojo into a 21st-place tie with Elena Gemo in the world rankings. Anja van der Hout took second in 29.54, while Sylvia Dik earned third in 29.78.

Bastiaan Lijesen cleared his meet record in the men's 50 back with a time of 25.76. His previous mark stood at 25.91 since last year. Lijesen already stands 12th in the world with a 25.21 from March. Nick Driebergen captured second in 25.80, while Willemsen placed third in 26.46 for his second podium of the night.

Sebastiaan Verschuren raced into fifth in the world rankings in the men's 200 free with a sterling time of 1:47.10. That time jumped him ahead of Nicholas Ffrost's 1:47.50. Stefan de Die took second in 1:51.10, while Joost Reijns wound up third in 1:51.56.

Femke Heemskerk jumped to 18th in the world with a 1:58.54 in the women's 200 free. Rieneke Terink touched second in 2:01.69, while Saskia de Jonge snared third in 2:02.02.

Sharon van Rouwendaal topped the women's 100 fly in 1:01.21, while Kelly de Jong placed second in 1:02.14. Andrea Kneppers grabbed third overall in 1:02.58. Fanny Lecluyse touched out Loes Zanderink and Lia Dekker, 2:32.40 to 2:32.60 and 2:32.73, in the women's 200 breast.

Devi Wolthuizen claimed the men's 200 breast title in 2:17.18, while Lennart Stekelenburg turned in a second-place 2:22.28. Stefan Hazeleger placed third in 2:23.31. Davy Verreussel led the men's 400 IM in 4:28.07. Bram Dekker (4:28.35) and Vincent van Iperen (4:33.32) rounded out the top three.

Marion van den Berg led the women's 800 free in 9:03.98, while Marieke Nijhuis finished second in 9:08.24. Leonie van Noort snatched third in 9:11.52.

In relay action, Kira Toussaint, Willemijn Knot, Nijhuis and Lona Kroese won the women's 400 medley relay in 4:14.78. Reijns, de Die, Bas van Velthoven and Verschuren claimed the men's 400 medley relay in 3:20.95.
