Dutch Long Course Nationals: Three Dutch Records Fall, Femke Heemskerk Downs Legendary 1984 Record by Jolanda de Rover

EIDNHOVEN, The Netherlands, June 12. THE first day of action at the Dutch Long Course Nationals featured three national records including one of the longest standing marks in the books taking a tumble.

Femke Heemskerk turned in a 2:11.48 in the women's 200 back to down the Dutch record. Her time eclipsed the 2:12.38 set by Jolanda de Rover way back in 1984 at the Los Angeles Olympics. Wendy van den Zanden touched second in 2:14.52, while Mariet Koster finished third in 2:17.47.

Lieke Verouden downed the women's 200 IM Dutch record with a time of 2:15.35. That effort clipped the 2:15.52 set by Heemskerk back in 2008. Joelle Scheps took second in 2:18.53, while Fanny Lecluyse earned third in 2:18.93.

Joost Reijns, Bas van Velthoven, Stefan de Die and Sebastiaan Verschuren lowered the Dutch record in the men's 800 free relay with a 7:24.90. That effort downed the 7:27.27 set back in 2008.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo won the women's 50 free in 24.67, just off her top-ranked effort of 24.40 from March. Heemskerk finished second in 25.37 for her second podium of the day. Ilse Kraaijeveld touched third in 25.70.

Alexander Dale Oen lowered the meet record in the men's 100 breast with a 1:01.76. That swim cleared the 1:01.80 set by Thijs van Valkengoed in 2003. Bram Dekker took second in 1:02.85, while Lennart Stekelenburg and Robin van Aggele tied for third with matching 1:03.15s.

Nick Driebergen won the men's 200 back title in 2:01.74, while Jurjen Willemsen placed second in 2:02.71. Henk van Niejenhuis picked up third in 2:07.24. Moniek Nijhuis topped the women's 100 breast in 1:10.59. Lia Dekker (1:11.10) and Loes Zanderink (1:11.15) took second and third.

Joeri Verlinden claimed the men's 200 fly in 2:00.73, while Fabian Beimin took second in 2:04.02. Wouter Houtman placed third in 2:04.48. Sharon van Rouwendaal cruised in the women's 200 fly with a winning time of 2:14.71. Lenneke van Schaik (2:19.36) and Marloes Oldenburg (2:22.02) placed second and third.

Van Aggele snatched the men's 50 free title in 23.16, while Sebastiaan Verschuren placed just behind in 23.26. Jan Kersten took third overall in 23.49. Dekker snared the men's 200 IM in 2:05.09, while Sebas van Lith finished second in 2:07.01. Mike Marissen wound up third in 2:07.39.

In relay action, Jovanna Koens, Clarissa van Rheenen, van den Zanden and Maud van de Meer took the women's 400 free relay in 3:47.99.
