TYR Swim Meet of Champions: Tyler Clary Posts Amazing Triple, Chloe Sutton Continues Strong Meet

MISSION VIEJO, California, June 11. THE second night of long course meter swimming at the TYR Swim Meet of Champions produced a special night from Tyler Clary, who is swimming for FAST this summer. Meanwhile, Mission Viejo's Chloe Sutton kept rolling with an incredible meet.

California's Madison Kennedy opened up the second night of swimming with a winning time of 56.89 in the women's 100 free. Sutton showed some remarkable versatility pulling off a second-place time of 57.46 in a much shorter swim than she is accustomed to as a distance freestyler. Toronto's Paige Schultz completed the podium with a third-place 57.75. Notably, FAST's Kate Ziegler won the B final in 57.82.

Trojan's Dominik Meichtry picked up the men's 100 free title in 50.51, while Matt McLean gave the crowd its second distance freestyler to finish in second in a sprint free with a 51.55. He just touched out Bakersfield's Gabe Woodward (51.58) for second. Trojan's Clement Lefert (51.78) and Arizona's Joel Greenshields (51.95) also cleared 52 in the race.

Trojan grabbed its second straight victory with a top-two sweep of the women's 200 fly. Katinka Hosszu put together a 2:09.08 to move to 12th in the world in the event. Teammate Lyndsay De Paul finished second overall with a time of 2:11.19, while North Coast's Tanya Krisman snatched third in 2:11.78.

Clary, representing FAST at this meet, cruised in the men's 200 fly with a winning time of 2:00.17. Trojan's Clement Lefert finished a distant second in 2:02.39, while Oakville's Zack Chetrat earned third in 2:03.19.

Laval's Genevieve Cantin dominated the women's 200 back with a clean stroke the entire way, stopping the clock in 2:15.65. Cantin is slated to compete for Canada as part of its Pan Pacs team in August across town in Irvine. Olympian's Deanna Matthews placed well back with a second-place time of 2:18.36, while Trojan's Joan Christel Simms rounded out the top three in 2:20.53.

Clary doubled up with a back-to-back triumph, this time with a 2:00.60 in the men's 200 back. Toronto's Tobias Oriwol snared second in 2:02.87, while Waves' Jiheun Kim wound up third in 2:04.29.

Sutton, who has an epic amount of swims this weekend, followed up her second-place finish in the sprint 100 with a convincing conquest of the women's 400 free. She posted a time of 4:08.88, a second back of her 10th-ranked time of 4:07.41 from March. Ziegler finished second in 4:11.46, while Christine Jennings completed the podium in 4:16.98.

Clary then completed a remarkable triple spanning 800 meters of swimming with a winning effort out of lane eight in the men's 400 free. Clary hit the wall in 3:55.73, just ahead of Mission Viejo's Chad La Tourette (3:56.29). FAST's Chip Peterson captured third in 3:57.28. FAST's Charlie Houchin put up a 3:55.10 in the B final, which would have claimed the A final crown if he'd made it into the championship heat in the morning.

In relay action, Laval's Marie-Pier Ratelle, Cantin, Charlotte Dandurand and Caroline Murray won the women's 400 free relay in 3:55.51. Team Rebel's Tyler Bush, Kyle Virva, Calan Eldridge and David Seiler knocked off Alberta's David Hibberd, Brian Yakiwchuk, Robert MacKinnon and Greenshields, 3:34.04 to 3:34.64, in the men's 400 free relay.
