Virginia Tech Hires Reed Robelot, Danielle Quarry as Assistant Coaches

BLACKSBURG, Virginia, June 3. THE Virginia Tech Athletics Department, along with head coach Ned Skinner, announced the hiring of Reed Robelot and Danielle Quarry as assistant swimming and diving coaches on Friday. Robelot comes to Tech from Western Kentucky University where he served as head assistant coach since 2007, while Quarry spent last year with the H20kies as a part-time assistant coach.

Robelot joined the Hilltopper staff in August, 2007 and helped the WKU women's squad to its third consecutive Sun Belt Conference title and the men's unit to the 2010 league championship. Robelot also mentored 2010 Sun Belt Conference Female Swimmer of the Year Claire Donahue in the butterfly events.

"We are thrilled to welcome Reed Robelot to our H2Okie family," Skinner said. "I first met Reed at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials and have been impressed by the work that he has done at Western Kentucky. Braden Holloway has known Reed for many years and felt that Reed would be a great addition to our staff."

Prior to his stint at WKU, Robelot was head coach of the Houston Cougar Aquatic Sports club team and served as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Houston women's swimming and diving program. Robelot received his degree in graphic design from Louisiana State University in 2003 and earned his Master's from LSU in sport pedagogy in 2006. At LSU, the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native was a three-year letterwinner for the swimming and diving squad and garnered a spot on the SEC Scholar Athlete Honor Roll from 1998-2002.

Quarry will enter her second season on the H20kie staff, and first as a full-time assistant coach. Quarry joined Tech last season as an assistant coach. The Colorado Springs, Colorado, native graduated from Southern Illinois in 2009 with a degree in social work and was a four-time Missouri Valley finalist and two-time all-conference selection. She swam the backstroke and the individual medley in her time with the Salukis.

"Danielle Quarry did an outstanding job for our program last year and we are very excited to have her with us in a full-time capacity," Skinner said. "She already knows our program and team and we believe she will continue to grow into an outstanding swim coach."
