Mel Zajac Jr. International: Dana Vollmer, Annamay Pierse Set Meet Records

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, May 29. THE second evening of long course meter action feature two more meet records falling at the Mel Zajac Jr. International.

Dana Vollmer remained on fire in Vancouver with a meet record in the women's 100 fly. She clocked a time of 58.59 to eclipse Jenny Thompson's 1997 meet mark of 1:00.23. That was the second Thompson record Vollmer has downed so far this meet, and the time came up just short of Vollmer's season best of 58.42 set in Austin in March. That time moved her to sixth in the world rankings. MacKenzie Downing placed second in 1:01.09, while Kendra Chernoff grabbed third in 1:01.55.

Annamay Pierse joined Martha McCabe under the meet record in the women's 200 breast. Pierse clocked a 2:27.18, while McCabe touched in 2:28.54 as both smashed Pierse's meet mark of 2:29.42 set in 2008. Both times are well back of Pierse (2:24.76) and McCabe's (2:25.44) top times from this year, which put them in the top 10 in the world rankings. Haylee Johnson took third in 2:30.87.

Julia Wilkinson moved up to 20th in the world rankings in the women's 50 back with a time of 28.83. That effort cleared the 28.85 clocked by Ksenia Moskvina earlier this month. Katy Murdoch finished second in 29.71, while Brooklyn Snodgrass claimed third in 29.87. Wilkinson doubled up with a 2:14.40 in the women's 200 IM.
