LOS ANGELES, California, May 27. THE Los Angeles City Sectional Championships took place on Friday, May 21.

Palisades Charter took first in the girls' competition, scoring 409 points. It finished just ahead of second-place Cleveland, which scored 404 points. Venice (288), Birmingham Charter (200), and Grenada Hills Charter (162) rounded out the top five.

On the boys' side, Cleveland claimed first with 342 points, ahead of Birmingham Charter and Palisades Charter, which scored 279 and 276 points, respectively. Grenada Hills Charter (231) and San Pedro (161.5) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the team rankings.

Girls Results
Cleveland's Val Orellana swam the best performance of the meet; Orellana broke the sectional record in 100 fly, swimming a 56.71, ahead of Andi Murez' 57.40 from 2007. Notably, runner-up Bianca Valencia of Grenada Hills also cleared Murez' former record, posting a 56.90. Orellana returned later to take the win in the 100 back, clocking a 58.03.

Other double winners included Marshall's Megan Lee and Venice's Margaret O'Rourke. Lee claimed wins in the 200 IM, clocking 2:08.20 and the 500 free, where she touched in 5:07.11. O'Rourke, meanwhile, won the 50 and 100 free, posting respective times of 25.14 and 54.13.

Grenada Hills' Samantha Elam touched in 1:55.87 for the 200 free win, while Cleveland's Jessica Chong won the 100 breast in 1:10.38, rounding out the individual swimming winners. El Camino's Montana Monaham scored 342.55 points to claim the one-meter diving.

Cleveland scored victories in both the 200 medley and 400 free relay, posting a time of 1:53.32 in the medley and 3:43.81 in the longer free relay. Venice, meanwhile, bested the field in the 200 free relay, winning in 1:44.22.

Boys Results
Grenada Hills' Grant Richman and Taft's Nico Kryspin both earned two victories in boys' competition. Richman won the 200 free in 1:47.81, and he later returned to capture the 500 free in 4:46.64. Kryspin, meanwhile, swept the sprints, posting a 22.03 for the victory in the 50 free and a 48.77 for the 100 free win.

Hollywood's Alex Moshensky won the 200 IM in 2:03.89, while Steven Jalomo claimed the 100 fly, posting a tip time of 55.22. Palisades Charter's John Cullen was first to the wall in the 100 back, posting a 55.90. Cleveland's Valentino Vilches took the 100 breast in 1:05.15.

Palisades Charter narrowly defeated Cleveland in the 200 medley relay, 1:46.22 to 1:46.31, before Cleveland posted victories in the other two relays, winning the 200 free relay in 1:32.60 and the 400 free relay in 3:24.29.

El Camino's Paul Joung posted the top score in the one-meter diving competition, scoring 363.55 points.
