Belgian Long Course Championships: Kim Janssens Edges National Mark

ANTWERP, Belgium, May 17. THE final day of the Belgian Long Course Championships featured one more national mark going up on the scoreboard.

Kim Janssens clipped her national record in the women's 50 breast with a time of 31.84. The performance beat her 31.85 set back in January this year. Elise Matthysen finished second in 33.57, while Fanny Lecluyse took third in 33.62.

A day after doubling and tying a national record, Kimberly Buys won the women's 200 back in 2:13.44, less than a second back of her Belgian record of 2:12.75 set in January 2009. Jasmijn Verhaegen finished second in 2:16.61, while Evy Witlox completed the top three in 2:17.35. Buys then took second in the women's 50 fly with a 27.97. Iris Rosenberger won the sprint fly in 27.68, while Charlotte Parent captured third in 28.48.

Yoris Grandjean came up short of his national record in the men's 50 free with a 22.51. He owns the record with a 22.13 from last summer. Jasper Aerents finished second in 22.63, while Francois Heersbrandt claimed third in 22.91. Sander Helderweirt topped the men's 50 back in 26.90, while Nathan Bonnel (27.06) and Jeroen Lecoutere (27.19) earned second and third.

Ward Bauwens claimed the men's 200 IM title in 2:06.98, while Emmanuel Vanluchene took second in 2:07.18. Bastien Soret placed third in 2:08.48. Jonas Coreelman followed in the men's 100 breast with a winning time of 1:04.92. Pedro Agostinho finished second in 1:05.65, while Bjoern Balliu wound up third in 1:05.99.

Axel Vandevelde held off Ken Cortens, 3:59.49 to 3:59.89, in the men's 400 free. Louis Croenen completed the podium with a 4:00.38. Annelies De Mare followed with a 2:01.11 to win the women's 200 free. Sascha Van Den Branden took second in 2:03.05, while Jolien Sysmans placed third in 2:05.41.

Glenn Surgeloose came close to the men's 100 fly national mark with a winning time of 52.99. Heersbrandt kept his record, the 52.67 set in January 2009. Gino Stevenheydens took second in 54.25, while Egon Van Der Straeten claimed third in 55.80.
