Industry News: Michael Phelps’ First Competition of the Season Live on Universal Sports

LOS ANGELES, California, May 13. MICHAEL Phelps, the most decorated Olympian in U.S. history with 14 gold medals and 16 total medals, headlines the Charlotte UltraSwim Grand Prix, May 14 – 16, LIVE on Universal Sports. U.S. Olympians Ryan Lochte, Natalie Coughlin, Aaron Peirsol, Cullen Jones, Peter Vanderkaay and Amanda Weir join Phelps at the sixth stop on the eight-meet USA Swimming Grand Prix series. Universal Sports live coverage of the event from Charlotte, NC, starts at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, May 14, and continues through Sunday, May 16, with a re-air each evening. Over the past 26 years, the Charlotte Grand Prix has hosted more than 10,000 athletes, including more than 130 Olympians, more than 50 Olympic Gold Medalists, and was the home of a World Record in 2000. This year, the field will also feature National Champions, collegiate athletes and standouts from the high school level. Swimmers will be competing for $50,000 in cash prizes, a points-based system for competitors in the ‘A' level events.

Three-time Olympic gold medalist and NBC Sports Olympic swimming analyst Rowdy Gaines will provide commentary for the event alongside play-by-play announcer Ted Robinson.
