Conor Murphy to Join IU Diving Program This Fall

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, May 13. INDIANA University head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber announced today that Conor Murphy will join the Hoosiers' men's diving squad beginning in the fall of 2010.

Murphy hails from Santa Margarita High School in Lake Forest, Calif. He finished fifth on the 1-meter at the 2010 South Coast League Championships and was victorious at the Second Annual Santa Margarita Catholic High School Invitational. Murphy placed seventh on the 3-meter and 10th on the 1-meter at the 2010 USA Diving Spring Region 10 Championships and was victorious on the 1-meter at the 2010 Southern Pacific Association Winter Championships.

As a junior, Murphy placed 10th on the 1-meter at the California Interscholastic Division I Diving Championships. Prior to taking up diving, Murphy competed as an elite trampolinist and tumbler, participating at the world championships twice, as well as the 2008 Pan American Trampoline and Tumbling Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"Conor is a very talented athlete and we are lucky to have him join the Indiana diving team next fall," Huber said. "Even though he has only been diving a short time, he has an extensive background in trampoline and a great deal of his experience, spatial awareness, and body control transfers readily to his diving. He has also been diving under the direction of the fantastic coaching staff at the Mission Viejo Nadadores diving club and they have made a huge difference in his diving this past year. I am looking forward to working with Conor and I think he will be one of our top divers in the near future."
