YMCA Short Course Nationals: Sarasota Wins Combined Team Title, Leah Pronschinski Lowers YMCA Record

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, April 10. SARASOTA YMCA walked away with the combined team title after the final day of competition at the YMCA Short Course Nationals. Meanwhile, Eau Claire's Leah Pronschinski produced the ninth YMCA mark of the meet.

Sarasota won the overall team title with 660 points (403 women, 257 men), while Middle Tyger took second with 656 points (378 women, 278 men) took second. Triangle Area completed the top three with 438 points (150 women, 288 men).

Pronschinski cleared the YMCA record in the women's 100 breast with a sterling 1:01.43. That effort wiped out the 1:02.25 that Corrie Clark set way back in 1999. Pronschinski nearly beat the record in prelims with a 1:02.50. Wilton's K.C. Moss (1:03.62) and Geneva Lakes' Emily Russart (1:03.92) completed the top three. Wilton's Christian Higgins won the men's 100 breast in 55.73 after topping prelims in 55.16. Riverfront's Kevin Steel finished second in 56.36, while Glens Falls' Andrew Guinther pocketed third in 56.43.

Sarasota's Danielle Valley cruised in the women's 1650 free with a winning time of 16:22.88. M.E. Lyons' Molly Hazelbake placed a distant second in 16:40.54, while Sarasota's McKayla Lightbourn wound up third in 16:44.47. M.E. Lyons' Alex Miller followed in the men's 1650 free with a winning time of 15:19.90. Hickory's Graham Williams touched second in 15:23.02, while Sarasota's Nicholas Caldwell grabbed third in 15:23.04.

Middle Tyger's Haley Lips earned the women's 200 fly title in 1:58.97. York's Hali Flickinger claimed second in 1:58.98, while Sanford's Jenni Roberts earned third in 2:01.64. West North Carolina's Nathan Hart topped the men's 200 fly in 1:46.61. Middle Tyger's David Ingraham took second in 1:47.21, while Upper Main Line's Matthew Salig wound up third in 1:48.37.

In relay competition, Birmingham's Jaynie Pulte, Taylor Steffl, Margaret Pyett and Nikki Barczak won the women's 200 free relay in 1:35.50. Triangle Area's Dominick Glavich, Matt Taylor, Kevin Rogers and Joe Bonk took the men's 200 free relay in 1:23.17. Middle Tyger's Annie Gillig, Monica Milici, Haley Lips and Kendall Crawford won the women's 400 medley relay in 3:44.98. Teammates Jay Warner, Jared Kauffman, David Ingraham and James Weber closed the show with a 3:21.17 to win the men's 400 medley relay.
