Canadian Spring Nationals/Pan Pacific Trials: Ryan Cochrane, Amanda Reason Lead Day Three

MONTREAL, Quebec, April 2. A pair of top 10 times in the world this year went in the rankings at the Canadian Spring Nationals, which serve as Canada's Pan Pacific Trials.

Ryan Cochrane turned in a 3:49.42 to win the men's 400 free. That performance moved him up to fourth in the world so far this year. Only Tae Hwan Park (3:45.03), Robert Hurley (3:47.67) and Ryan Napoleon (3:48.70) have been faster this year. Jeremy Bagshaw finished second in 3:54.07, while Blake Worsley earned third in 3:54.73. Alexa Komarnycky topped the women's 400 free in 4:11.41, while Samantha Cheverton finished second in 4:13.67. Stephanie Horner wound up third in 4:15.79.

Amanda Reason turned in a 31.78 to win the women's 50 breast. That swim moved her up to ninth in the world this year. Allison Long and Annamay Pierse tied for second with matching 32.12s. Mathieu Bois claimed the men's 50 breast title in 28.62. Paul Kornfeld and Warren Barnes also tied for second with matching 28.81s.

Katerine Savard cleared 1:00 to win the women's 100 fly with a time of 59.80. Chantal Vanlandeghem (1:00.71) and Audrey Lacroix (1:00.87) touched second and third. Joe Bartoch followed in the men's 100 fly with a 53.26. Stefan Hirniak placed second in 54.47, while Eric Cantin took third in 54.57.

Lauren Lavigna touched out Genevieve Cantin, 2:11.36 to 2:11.74, to win the women's 200 back. Barbara Jardin (2:12.50) and Sinead Russell (2:12.62) rounded out the top four. In an exciting finish, Matt Hawes emerged from the pack to win the men's 200 back in 2:00.35. Charles Francis (2:00.54) and Nicholas Sinclair (2:00.56) placed second and third just behind.
