Walnut Creek Aquanuts Crowned Junior National Synchro Swimming Champions in Austin

INDIANAPOLIS, Indianapolis, March 27. THE 2010 Junior National Championships concluded today with the finals competition at the University Texas at Austin, Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The Walnut Creek Aquanuts made their mark by winning the overall high point award with 58 points followed by the Santa Clara Aquamaids (36) and the Arizona Aqua Stars (32).

Today's action featured the finals of the solo, duet, team and combo events. In the duet competition, Walnut Creek's Alyson Haylor and Alexa Tchekmarev were crowned the Junior National Champions with an overall score of 154.113 (combination of routine score and figures score). Santa Clara's Margo Sargent and Kathryn Spada took home the silver medal (149.095) and Riverside's Elizabeth Davidson and Lauren Nicholson grabbed the bronze (147.386).

In the solo, Tchekmarev grabbed her second gold medal of the day (155.246) while Haylor took second with a 151.980. Nicholson scored a 149.314 which was good enough for a third place finish.

In the team finals event, Santa Clara claimed the top spot with an overall score of 152.467 followed by Walnut Creek (152.018) and the Arizona Aqua Stars (147.556).

In the combo event, Walnut Creek took first place with an 83.250, followed by the Arizona Aqua Stars (82.125) and the Coral Springs Aquacades 78.625.

The competition featured nearly 200 athletes ages 15-18 and was hosted by the by the Austin Angelfish and the University of Texas at Austin.
