Polish Short Course Grand Prix, Opole: Aleksandra Urbanczyk, Pawel Korzeniowski Double

OPOLE, Poland, March 13. THE first of two days of short course swimming took place at the Polish Grand Prix held in Opole. Aleksandra Urbanczyk and Pawel Korzeniowski both managed to pull off a daily double.

Mirela Olczak touched out Paula Zukowska, 4:44.32 to 4:44.65, in the women's 400 IM. Alicja Tchorz finished third in 4:48.86. Mateusz Matczak followed in the men's 400 IM with a 4:20.48. Marcin Suzin finished second in 4:32.08, while Pawel Werner earned third in 4:34.96.

Zukowska turned around with an 8:39.96 to win the women's 800 free. Donata Kilijanska touched second in 8:45.33, while Katarzyna Zolnowska took third in 8:49.14. Maciej Hreniak topped the men's 800 free in 8:00.36, while Krzystof Pielowski (8:02.93) and Bartosz Hura (8:10.85) rounded out the top three.

Aleksandra Urbanczyk sprinted to a win in the women's 50 fly with a 27.01. Agata Korc took second in 27.56, while Anna Dowgiert finished third in 27.66. Pawel Korzeniowski earned the men's 50 fly title in 24.62. Emil Bening (25.69) and Bartosz Wicieniewski (25.91) placed second and third.

Urbanczyk doubled up with a 28.79 to win the women's 50 back. Katarzyna Wilk (29.16) and Klaudia Nazieblo (29.41) rounded out the podium. Radoslaw Kawecki won the men's 50 back in 25.24. Jakub Jasinski touched second in 25.80, while Mateusz Wysoczynski finished third in 26.44.

Paulina Zachoszcz claimed the women's 50 breast in 32.98. Ewa Oecieszko (33.33) and Agnieszka Ostrowska (34.19) placed second and third. Adam Plutecki snatched the men's 50 breast title in 28.36. Slawomir Kuczko (29.15) and Piotr Jachowicz (29.36) took second and third.

Korc picked up her second podium of the day with a winning effort of 25.69 in the women's 50 free. Wilk took second in 25.93, while Natalia Pawlaczek finished third in 26.95. Korzeniowski doubled up with a 23.46 to win the men's 50 free. Robert Wilk took second in 23.72, while Pawel Rurak earned third in 23.85.
