Wisconsin State Championships

BROWN DEER, Wisconsin, March 10. BADGER Aquatics Club and the Waukesha Express dominated the 2010 Wisconsin State short-course yard Championships at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center this past weekend.

Aja Van Hout from Badger Aquatics (BAC) impressively won four individual events including the 50 free (23.34), 200 free (1:49.62), 200 IM (2:01.73), and 400 IM (4:21.73), earning her women's high point winner of the meet with 112 points. Teammate Jacqueline Powell also won multiple individual events including the 100 free (51.08) and 500 free (4:51.74), which she won by 7 seconds.

Northwestern-bound swimmer, Becca Soderholm also of BAC, won the 200 fly (2:05.21) and teammate Katherine Delany won the 1650 free (16:58.25).

Other multiple winner was Becky Yokosh of the Piranhas, who won the 100 back (55.89) and 200 back (2:01.36).

Also winning individually was Becca Weiland of SPDY, Brittany Walsh of the Southwest Aquatic Team (SWAT), and Emily Schwabe of Waukesha Express. Weiland won the 100 fly (55.91), Walsh won the 1000 free (10:06.86), and Schwabe won the 200 breast (2:15.83).

BAC swam to wins in three relays including the 200 free relay (1:34.72), 400 free relay (3:26.85), and 800 free relay (7:28.38). The Waukesha Express also picked a couple of relay wins in the 200-medley relay (1:47.01) and 400-medley relay (3:49.35).

Future Iowa Hawkeye and men's high point winner, Tyler Lentz from the Central Wisconsin Wave Makers (CWWM) won five individual events, including the 100 fly (49.77), 100 back (50.49), 200 back (1:49.48), 200 IM (1:51.27), and 400 IM (4:01.80).

Also winning multiple events, Max Evansnolan of Waukesha Express won the 1000 free (9:40.12) and 1650 free (15:57.71). Dak Stone of Tide won the 100 breast (56.56) and 200 breast (2:04.73), and Scott Mueller of Menomonee Falls Swim Club won the 50 free (20.67) and 100 free (45.59).

Other individual winners included Derek Toomey and Michael Drives of BAC winning the 200 free (1:42.02) and 500 free (4:35.01) respectively.

BAC won three out of the five relays including the 200-medley relay (1:35.63), 400 free relay (3:05.46), and 800 free relay (6:55.29).

With the help of former Olympian Adam Mania, the Schroeder YMCA took the wins in both the 200 free relay (1:23.60) and 400-medley relay (3:23.72).

The Waukesha Express won the championship with a combined score of 3,188.5 points, Badger Aquatics came in second with 2,260.5 points, and Lake Country came in third with 1,408 points.
