NJCAA Championships: Indian River State College Clinches 36th, 29th Straight Men’s, Women’s Team Titles

FORT PIERCE, Florida, March 6. THE streaks continued as Indian River State College captured its 36th and 29th straight men's and women's team titles at the NJCAA Championships.

The men's team accumulated a massive total of 938 points. Daytona State finished second with 654 points, while Lincoln placed third with 575 points. Darton (407) and Monroe (313) rounded out the top five spots among the men.

IRSC's women's team amassed an incredible total of 1,071 points to win. Darton posted 519 points for second, while Daytona State placed third with 509 points. Monroe (309) and Lincoln (215) comprised the rest of the top five.

IRSC swept the top four in the women's 200 back. Monika Mialka captured the title in 2:00.06, while Tina McIntyre placed second in 2:04.49. Rebecca Harrison (2:04.88) and Stephanie Doran (2:04.91) finished the sweep. IRSC's John Ellis claimed the men's 200 back title in 1:49.89, while Lincoln's Bryce Bohman earned second in 1:51.06. Monroe's Kevin Burns grabbed third in 1:52.73.

IRSC picked up the top four again in the women's 100 free. Charlotte Graham won in 51.24, while Andrea Uzcategui touched second in 51.79. Jennifer Marquez (51.85) and Jessica Chandlee (51.97) took third and fourth. IRSC's Kelley Wyman won the men's 100 free in 44.61. Donaven Van Der Merwe touched second in 45.05, while Lincoln's Daniel Corley took third in 45.23.

IRSC went 1-2 in the women's 200 breast. Mary Frank topped the event in 2:19.15, while Katie Kittrell placed second in 2:21.96. Lincoln's Sandra Stopczynska rounded out the top three in 2:27.50. IRSC's Jordan Arencibia won the men's 200 breast in 2:01.18, while teammate Chandler Gerlach placed second in 2:05.36. Daytona's Kevin Doran wound up third in 2:05.46.

IRSC's Magwye Herring snatched the women's 200 fly title in 2:11.16. Monroe's Hali Snow placed second in 2:14.45, while Darton's Lindsey Johnson garnered third in 2:16.69. Daytona's Raymond DePadua broke the IRSC final day march with a winning time of 1:50.72 in the men's 200 fly. IRSC's Anthony Alberts took second in 1:51.93, while teammate Max Abreu earned third in 1:54.29.

In the distance events, IRSC's Vanessa Hanbury won the women's 1650 free with a 17:13.03. Monroe's Meghan Rickelman placed second in 18:04.48, while Lincoln's Kristina Welke finished third in 18:19.70. IRSC went 1-2 in the men's 1650 free. Mateo De Angulo won in 15:22.59, while Ellis placed second in 15:29.90. Daytona's Will Collum touched third in 15:50.38.

IRSC's Marquez, Uzcategui, Mialka and Graham won the women's 400 free relay in 3:24.80, while teammates Wyman, Van Der Merwe, Nick Hein and De Angulo topped the men's 400 free relay in 3:00.36.

In diving, IRSC swept the top three in the women's three-meter with Sarah Wygle (391.05), Britta Daniels (369.80) and Cynthia Maturo (316.30). Lincoln's Tyler Clingerman won the men's one-meter event with 510.60 points. Monroe's Grant Oosterling (391.35) and IRSC's Nicholas O'Connor (373.55) finished second and third.
