Ohio Division 2 High School State Championships

CANTON, Ohio, March 2. AT the Ohio Division 2 High School State Championships, Hawken and University School walked away with state titles. On the girls' side, Hawken tallied 333 points for first while Columbus Bishop Hartley took second (157) and Napoleon and Sandusky Perkins tied for third with 149 points. The University School boys won with 298 points followed by Cincinnati Wyoming (250) and Sandusky Perkins (143).

Girls Results
Nikki Craft (Bay), Natalie Ritter (Columbus Academy) and Sarah Pyles (Cincinnati Hills Christian) were top finishers in the diving competition. They finished with scores of 449.90, 414.30 and 385.35, respectively.

Columbus Bishop Hartley's Jessica Carpenter, Andrea Cottrell, Brianna Archambeau, and Taylor Shotwell won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.02.

Samantha Zuch (Napoleon), who is a four-star recruit in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings was a dual event winner in the 200 and 500 (4:53.60). She set a state record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.38. The previous record (1:48.80) was set by Hawken's Alyssa Kiel in 2004. She also teamed up with Erika Vocke, Makenzie Garringer and Jesse Sworden for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.95). Zuch will be attending the University of Utah in the fall.

Five-star recruit Margo Geer (Fairbanks) had individual wins in the 50 (22.48) and 100 freestyles. She set a state record in the prelims of the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.63 (48.85 in finals).

Freshman Sarah Koucheki won the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.60. She teamed up with Carrie Bencic, Jordan Bitterman and Morgan Cohara for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:31.28).

Boys Results
University School's Kevin Stang, Korey Schneider, Russell Stack, and Andrew Malone set a state record in the 200 medley relay (1:34.85). The previous record (1:35.39) was set last year by Sandusky Perkins' Chapman, Harris, Waldock, and Mulvin.

Malone set a meet record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.83. The previous record (57.20) was set last year by Jonathan Profitt (Cincinnati Wyoming).

Jamie Englhardt set a state record in the diving competition with 488.10 points. The previous record (481.70) was set last year by Mogadore Field's Jeff Craig. Other top finishers include Gilmour Acadmey's Alex Lohiser (366.60) and Bellbrook's Andrew Oswalt (336.30).

Owen Dunbar, AJ Burt, Pat Dierker, and Michael Murphy (Cincinnati Wyoming) clocked a time of 1:26.19 for a win in the 200 freestyle relay.

Cooper Staton (Desales) matched the state record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.98 while Chris Waldock (SPE) set a state record in the 100 butterfly (50.22). Both records were set last year by Brian Barrett (New Albany) and Carl Svagerko (Col. St. Francis), respectively.

Other first-place finishers include Daniel Schmitz (Oakwood) in the 200 freestyle (1:41.16), Michael Gallagher (St. Mary Central) in the 200 IM (1:52.77), William Rosler (Columbus Academy) in the 100 freestyle (46.63), Mike Gaudiani (University) in the 500 freestyle (4:33.05), and Brad Hines (Taylor) in the 100 backstroke (51.80).

Eric Lethander, Dierker, Dunbar, and Zach Fischer closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:09.65).
