Oregon 6A High School State Championships

GRESHAM, Oregon, February 24. JESUIT and Lakeridge walked away with state titles at the Oregon 6A High School State Championships. The Jesuit girls tallied 196.50 points for first followed by Lakeridge (180) and Sunset (127). On the boys' side, Grant won with 104 points while Newberg took second (100) and McMinnville placed third (92).

Girls Results
Lakeridge won two of three relays. The foursome of Karen Turner, Amy Wiley (the 100 breaststroke champion in 1:03.67), Julia Dahl, and Lexi Burris set state records in the 200 medley relay (1:46.01) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.41). The previous record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:37.42) was set my McMinnville's Klein, Sharman, Bradshaw, and Neubig in 2004.

Turner was a dual event winner in the 100 butterfly (55.37) and the 100 backstroke. She set a state record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.22. The previous record (55.31) was set by Lincoln's Tammy Shannon in 1992.

Roseburg's Kaylin Bing had individual wins in the 50 and 100 (50.44) freestyles. She erased a 29-year-old record in the 50 freestyle by .01 seconds with a time of 23.14. The previous record was held by Lake Oswego's Sue Habernigg.

Junior Megan McCarroll (Jesuit) won the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.86. She teamed up with Kori Carpenter, Sheila Stocks and Chelsea Garza for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.77).

Boys Results
Grant's Will Tyrrell, Jordan Green, Max Bley-Male, and Henry Fellows won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.73.

Senior Steven Ung (Westview) was a dual event winner in the 50 (20.67) and 100 (45.13) freestyles.

Brian Cheney, Kale Rogers, Matthew Eichten, and Craig Cheney won the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.68).

Will Gunderson (Central Catholic) had individual wins in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke. He clocked times of 1:53.19 and 51.03, respectively.

Other first-place finishers include: Matthew Chauvin (McMinnville) in the 200 freestyle (1:42.58), Dana Emerson (Wilson) in the 100 butterfly (52.54), Cameron Stitt (Sunset) in the 500 freestyle (4:41.22), and Gabe Rooker (Forest Grove) in the 100 breaststroke (57.83).

Conor Arcuri, Filip Kapelac, Jonathon Yuan, and Ung closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:12.44).
