North Carolina 1/2A High School State Championships

CARY, North Carolina, February 18. CARRBORO, West Davidson and Lake Norman Charter were top finishers at the North Carolina 1/2A High School State Championships. On the girls' side, Carrboro scored 570 points for first while West Davidson took second (370) and Lake Norman Charter placed third (347). Meanwhile, the Carrboro boys tallied 610 points for the state title followed by West Davidson (398) and Lake Norman Charter (381).

Girls Results
West Davidson won two of three relays. Jessica Frazelle, Grace Baird, Taylor Koonts, and Kelly Ann Baird teamed up for a win in the 200 medley relay (1:55.78). Frazelle also won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.96.

K. A. Baird was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:49.86) and 500 freestyles. She set a meet record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:49.20.

Carrboro's Katie Furey, Rosemary Scanga, Megan May, and Emily Tysinger won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.16. Tysinger also won the 100 freestyle in 53.42.

Top finishers in the diving competition include Cedar Ridge's Molly Harkavy (270.70), Northwood's Cassie Meyer (268.35), and Cedar Ridge's Michelle Peedin (193.20).

Katherine Fletcher, Frazelle, G. Baird, and K. A. Baird had a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:42.27).

Boys Results
Carrboro won two of three relays. Caleb Camp, Tyler Oleski, George Beatty, and Chris Gondek won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.35. Beatty also set a meet record in the 500 freestyle (4:43.01). The previous record (4:43.06) was set by Brandon Suddreth (S. Iredell) in 2004.

Peter Brumm (Lake Norman Charter) was a dual event winner in the 200 freestyle (1:44.38) and the 100 butterfly (52.40).

Raleigh Charter's Joe Bonk had individual wins in the sprint races. He finished with times of 20.85 (50 freestyle) and 46.04 (100 freestyle). He teamed up with Sean O'Shea, Alex DiLalla and Alex Walker for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The foursome clocked a meet record with a time of 1:32.02. The previous record (1:32.66) was set last year by Hibriten's K. Hites, C. Hites, Beane, and Esch.

Michael Thomson (Durham Arts) won the 200 IM (1:58.92) and the 100 backstroke (53.98).

Joseph Maffly-Kipp and Theo Gundelheid of Carrboro took first (220.80) and second (187.20) in the diving competition, respectively.

Sam Strosnider joined Gondek, Camp and Beatty for a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:21.79).
