Kentucky High School State Championships

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky, February 18. SACRED Heart Academy and St. Xavier High School claimed state titles at the Kentucky High School State Championships. The Sacred Heart Academy girls tallied 425.50 points for first, followed by duPont Manual (330) and Notre Dame Academy (267.50). On the boys' side, St. Xavier won with 341.50 points while Trinity took second (223.50) and Beechwood placed third (215).

Girls Results
Notre Dame Academy's Caitlyn Forman, Molly Hinken, Ellen Williamson, and Mackenzie Margroum set a state record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.17. The previous record (1:45.52) was set in 2004 by Sacred Heart Academy's S. Menefee, A. MacGregor, D. Callaghan, and C. Burckle.

Williamson, a junior, also set two individual state records in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly (54.76). Her time in the 200 IM (2:01.14) surpassed Michele Schroder's 1993 record of 2:01.67.

Sarah Barker, Sarah Love, Emily Holt, and Caroline Thomas (duPont Manual) set a state record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.16).

Top finishers in the diving competition include Rebecca Hamperian (Lafayette) (489.05), Meredith Brownell (Ryle) (466.75), and Becca Corbett (Sacred Heart Academy) (440.35).

Beechwood's Krissie Brandenburg was a dual event winner in the 100 freestyle (50.64) and the 100 backstroke (54.29). She was only .14 seconds off Forman's 100 backstroke state record from this year's prelims. Forman placed second in finals with a time of 54.50.

Barker, Clark Weber, Love, and Thomas closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:28.57).

Boys Results
Beechwood won two of three relays. Shane Coltharp, Michael Miller, John Eubanks, and David O'Hare won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.44.
Coltharp, a senior, was a dual event winner in the 200 IM (1:52.81) and the 500 freestyle (4:31.00).

Male's Terry Devan had individual wins in the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke. He clocked times of 50.39 and 56.29, respectively.

St. Xavier's Garrett Stephens, Andrew Braun, Andrew Wagner, and Hyatt Gaston won the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.89).

Justin Youtsey of Beechwood won the diving competition with a score of 483.70. Trinity's Andrew Galyagni placed second (481.15) and Dixie Heights' Bailey Harrison finished third (426.00).

Eubanks, O'Hare, Miller, and Coltharp closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:11.42).
