Flanders Cup: Kimberly Buys Sets National Record, Doubles Up

ANTWERP, Belgium, January 17. A Belgian record fell during the second-and-final day of long course meter swimming at the Flanders Cup held in Antwerp.

Kimberly Buys lowered her Belgian record in the women's 50 fly with a swift time of 26.46. The swim beat her 26.63 set earlier this month. Jeanette Ottesen finished second in 26.97, while Annelies De Mare placed third in 28.75. Buys rattled her national record in the women's 100 back with a winning time of 1:02.89. Her personal best is a 1:02.46. Elodie Vanhamme (1:03.57) and Silke Van Hoof (1:04.05) also took podium spots.

Peter Vanderkaay cruised to victory in the men's 200 free with a 1:50.03, while Axel Vandevelde placed second in 1:51.82. Mads Glaesner completed the podium in 1:52.63. Vanderkaay doubled up with a 3:55.12 in the men's 400 free. Glaesner moved up to second with a 3:57.60, while Ward Bauwens took third in 3:57.86.

Fanny Lecluyse pocketed the women's 400 IM crown in 4:55.51 with Yne Dom earning second in 5:04.56. Camille Ansseau finished third in 5:05.10. Romanos Alyfantis easily claimed the men's 200 IM in 2:04.48. Raphael Stacchiotti (2:08.07) and Emmanuel Vanluchene (2:08.35) touched second and third.

Kim Janssens earned the women's 50 breast victory in 31.85, while Rikke Moeller Pedersen placed second in 32.19. Elise Matthysen picked up third in 32.78. Dieter Dekoninck touched out Matthias De Geeter, 23.45 to 23.49, in the men's 50 free. Gilles De Wilde grabbed third in 23.75.

Lotte Friis emerged triumphant from the women's 400 free with a 4:21.52, while Katrien Maes took second in 4:25.50. Gala Kenis wound up third in 4:26.68. Jason Dunford cleared 53 seconds with a winning time of 52.89 in the men's 100 fly. Evgeny Korotyshkin took second in 53.58, while Francois Heersbrandt placed third in 53.84.

Aschwin Wildeboer touched out Bruno Claeys, 26.42 to 26.45, in the men's 50 back. Dekoninck picked up his second podium of the night with a third-place 26.79. Ottesen snatched the women's 100 free title in 55.96, while De Mare took second in 56.04. Chantal Senden wound up third in 57.84.

Pedersen moved up from second in the 50 to a winning time of 2:28.56 in the women's 200 breast. Matthysen touched second in 2:31.59, while Jolien Vermeylen placed third in 2:32.49. Dimitri Komornikov held off Jonas Coreelman, 1:04.21 to 1:04.89, in the men's 100 breast. Raf Vandevelde finished third in 1:05.95.

Marit Hofman won the women's 200 fly in 2:19.82, while Pia Caenepeel (2:20.35) and Jolien Vanhentenrijk (2:21.81) completed the top three. Wildeboer doubled up with a 2:02.44 in the men's 200 back, while Louis Croenen took second in 2:04.90. Claeys touched third in 2:05.13.
