USA Swimming Grand Prix, Long Beach: Chloe Sutton, Robert Margalis Win 1000s

LONG BEACH, California, January 15. THE 1000 freestyles comprised the first night of short course yard swimming at the USA Swimming Grand Prix held in Long Beach, Calif.

Mission Viejo's Chloe Sutton, who first broke news on SwimmingWorld.TV that she turned pro at the Chesapeake Elite Pro-Am, raced to victory in the women's 1000 free with a time of 9:32.69. She won by a large margin as Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon wound up second overall in 9:48.91. USC's Haley Anderson rounded out the podium with a third-place time of 9:55.43, just beating teammate Ellie Doran's 9:55.83.

FAST's Robert Margalis topped the men's 1000 free with a time of 9:01.54, while Dayton Raider J.K. Koehler snatched second-place honors with a time of 9:03.49. BCH Heatwave's Zane Grothe completed the top three in the men's event with a third-place 9:04.32.
