Minnesota Named 2011 NCAA Men’s Division I Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, January 15. THE NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Committee has selected the University of Minnesota as the host for the 2011 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The competition will be held March 24-26, 2011 at University Aquatic Center.

The 2011 event will be the ninth NCAA Championships hosted by University Aquatic Center and the sixth men's championships. The facility which is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this year, has hosted a multitude of additional major events including three U.S. National Championships, three U.S. Opens, 10 Big Ten Championships, a U.S. Olympic Festival and a U.S. Diving Championships.

"We are extremely excited to be selected to host the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships once again," athletics director Joel Maturi said. "We are very fortunate to have one of the best facilities and aquatics staffs in the country at University Aquatic Center and they take great pride in hosting world-class events. If past NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships that we have hosted are any indication of what to expect, this will be a very exciting event."

In 2007, the facility became the first in the country to host both the NCAA men's and women's championships in consecutive weeks.

Minnesota will also host the 2011 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships as well from February 23-26, 2011. It will mark the sixth Big Ten men's championships hosted by the Aquatic Center and the 11th overall conference men's or women's championships.

The NCAA also announced that the University of Texas was also chosen to host the 2011 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center from March 17-19, 2011.
