Brazil Long Course Championships: Plenty of Meet Records on Last Day

SAO PAULO, Brazil, December 20. THE last day of competition took place at the Brazil Long Course Championships held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Betina Lorscheitter won the women's 400 free in 4:23.03 after Monique Ferreira checked in with a 4:23.96 during prelims but scratched the finale. In prelims, Felipe Araujo set a meet record in the men's 400 free with a 3:53.41. Araujo returned in the finale with a winning time of 3:52.72 to lower the record even further.

Fernanda Alvarenga claimed the women's 100 back title in 1:02.53. In prelims, Guilherme Guido downed the meet record in the men's 100 back with a 53.53. He came back in finals the next morning with a 54.09 for the win.

In prelims, Joanna Maranhao posted a 2:09.98 in the women's 200 fly for the meet record. Maranhao then won the finale with a 2:10.46. Kaio Almeida clocked a 1:55.27 in the men's 200 fly prelims to break the meet record. Almeida scratched finals, and with that Leonardo De Deus turned in a 1:57.52 for the title.

Alvarenga, Natalia Favoreto, Daynara De Paula and Maranhao won the women's 400 medley relay in 4:07.69 for the meet record. Meanwhile, Guido, Henrique Barbosa, Tales Cerdeira and Cesar Cielo clocked a meet record of 3:37.57 in the men's 400 medley relay.
