Chuck Wielgus Finalist for Head USOC Gig

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, December 14. ACCORDING to a report in the Colorado Springs Gazette, USA Swimming executive director Chuck Wielgus has been named a finalist to take the United States Olympic Committee's chief executive officer position.

Wielgus joins Sandy Alderson, Scott Blackmun, Norm Bellingham, Mark Lewis and "an undisclosed person with a corporate background" as finalists for the position.

Alderson was the top executive for the San Diego Padres until this past year, while Blackmun was the USOC's acting CEO from 2000-01. Bellingham has been the USOC's chief operating officer for the last three years, while Lewis is the head of Jet Set Sports, the Olympic hospitality firm.

Each of the finalists will be interviews next week, and the USOC hopes to name a new CEO by January.
