Kyle Troskot Signs With Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, December 9. CANADIAN swimming standout Kyle Troskot has signed a national letter of intent with the Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team and will join Aggies for the 2010-11 season, A&M head coach Jay Holmes announced on Tuesday.

Rated the No. 4 college swimming prospect by CollegeSwimming.com, Troskot, from Lethridge, Alberta, is expected to make an immediate impact in the freestyle sprints and on the Aggie relays. Despite being relative newcomer to the sport, the 6-foot-4 Troskot has logged long course meter best times of 22.93 in the 50 freestyle, 50.82 in the 100 free and 25.16 in the 50 butterfly.

"We are very excited to have Kyle in our program," Holmes said. "He will make an immediate impact for our team at the national level. He is already very good and will continue to get better. We have had some great Canadian swimmers and divers like Riley Janes, Matt Rose and Eric Sehn in our program that have made tremendous contributions to our team finish at the NCAA Championships, and I think Kyle is capable of building on that tradition."

At the 2009 Canada Cup in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Troskot medaled in the short course 50- and 100-meter freestyles with a runner-up finish to Canadian Olympian Brent Hayden in the 50 in 22.42 and a third-place finish in the 100 in 50.11. At the 2009 British Gas National Youth Championships in Sheffield, England, Troskot established the age 15-17 provincial record in the 50 free with a time of 22.93 and placed second in the 100 free.

Troskot was the Swim Alberta Outlying Area Male Swimmer of the Year and was selected to train with the sprinters in the Junior National Team Camp led by Canadian Olympic team coach Tom Johnson.
