Swedish Short Course Championships: Stefan Nystrand, Sara Thyden Close Day With Individual National Mark

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, November 28. THE third night of swimming at the Swedish Short Course Championships produced three national records including a pair of individual marks.

Stefan Nystrand and Jakob Dorch battled in the men's 50 breast, 26.70 to 26.99, with Nystrand remaining in control of the national record. Nystrand held the previous time with a 27.08 from 2003.

Sara Thyden and Stina Gardell also both cleared a national record. Thyden defeated Gardell, 4:33.87 to 4:34.41, in the women's 400 IM. Both efforts cleared Gardell's mark of 4:34.56 set two weeks ago.

Therese Alshammar just missed her national record of 52.17 with a meet-record time of 52.29 in the women's 100 free, while Jonas Persson clocked a meet-record performance of 46.99 in the men's 100 free. David Larsson checked in with a national junior record with a second-place 48.60.

Meanwhile, Christoffer Wallin won the men's 200 IM in 2:00.60. Sandra Hafstrom captured the women's 200 back in 2:10.43, while Niklas Borin posted a national junior record with a 24.91 in the men's 50 back. Joline Hostman won the women's 100 breast in 1:06.01, while Gustav Aberg Lejdstrom grabbed the men's 1500 free crown in 15:28.53.

In relay action, Thyden, Josefin Lillhage, Petra Granlund and Malin Svahnstrom won the women's 200 medley in 1:48.56. Svahnstrom, Lillhage, Granlund and Thyden then won the women's 800 free in 7:53.90, before Simon Sjodin, Niklas Tour, Petter Stymne and Nystrand set a national record with a 3:29.51 in the men's 400 medley relay.
