Louisiana State vs. New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana, November 13. THE LSU men's and women's swimming and diving teams swam to nine pool records against UNO Friday night at the Lakefront Aquatic Center en route to a sweep of the Privateers.

The Tigers (1-4) shattered two individual records and two relay marks in their 204-94 victory. The LSU women (2-4) received five record swims and emerged victorious, 190-84.

Both teams opened and closed the meet with pool relay records. The women's 200-yard medley relay group of Samantha Goates, Jane Trepp, Amanda Kendall and Mary Beck began the competition with a winning mark of 1 minute, 45.51 seconds, while the Tigers' foursome of Hannes Heyl, Andrei Tuomola, James Meyers and Reijo Hyvenen claimed a time of 1:32.62.

The Lady Tigers' 200 freestyle team of Trepp, Goates, Kendall and Kannon Betzen finished the women's meet with a first-place finish and pool mark of 1:34.58, and the men's squad of Tuomola, Sean LeNeave, Heyl and Hyvenen wrapped up the men's competition with a record time of 1:24.86.

Trepp and freshmen Sara Haley, Jana Ruimerman, Craig Hamilton and Lee Duggins registered pool records in individual competition.

Trepp won the 50 free in 23.34, while Haley swam to victory in the 200 butterfly with a new pool mark of 2:01.82, and Ruimerman took the 200 backstroke in 2:02.97. Duggins also came away with a record time in the 200 back (1:51.15), and Hamilton secured a record mark in the 1000 free (9:19.20).

A plethora of LSU athletes also earned victories on the evening. Tuomola swam to victory in both the 100 breaststroke (56.25) and 100 free (45.91), while Meyers touched the wall first in the 100 back (50.36), and LeNeave secured first-place in the 200 free (1:40.66).

Freshman Sally Wood delivered a winning time of 10.17.47 in the 1000 free and posted the fastest time in the 200 individual medley, 2:07.25. Junior Kannon Betzen tallied victories in both breaststroke races, while Beck reached the wall in 4:57.68 to take the 500 free.

In addition, senior Lauren Grandy captured the win in the 200 free, and freshman Amanda Kendall finished on top in the 100 fly. Junior Clint Hallum won the 500 free, sophomore Martin Jungfleisch swam to a victorious time of 1:52.30 in the 200 fly and Heyl took the 50 free. Hyvenen recorded wins in the 100 fly and 200 I.M. as well.

In diving, sophomore Matt Vieke notched an NCAA Zone Qualifying score of 312.23 to earn first in the one-meter springboard, while fellow sophomore Brian Gemberling improved his career-high score in the three-meter with a winning mark of 357.94. Lady Tigers' freshman Elle Schmidt registered victorious scores of 276.30 and 244.20 in the three-meter and one-meter, respectively, while fellow freshman Jesse Lyman came away with a career high of 289.05 in the one-meter.

LSU will travel to Houston, Texas to take part in the University of Houston Invitational, beginning next Friday, Nov. 20.
