Hungarian Short Course Championships: Laszlo Cseh Sets European Record in 200 IM

SZAZHALOMBATTA, Hungary, November 13. DURING the first day of action at the Hungarian Short Course Championships, Laszlo Cseh took down his European record in the men's 200 IM. Cseh clocked a 1:52.85 in the event to surpass his 1:52.99 set in 2007.

Dara Eszter lowered Evelyn Verraszto's national record in the women's 50 free with a time of 25.19. That performance wiped out Verraszto's 25.56 set in November 2008. David Szele followed with a Hungarian record in the men's 50 breast. He clocked a 27.12 to beat Daniel Gyurta's 27.55 set in December 2008. Gyurta finished second today in 27.25, also under his former record.

Nikolett Szepesi eclipsed the national record in the women's 200 back with a time of 2:05.33. That swim knocked Verraszto from another record as she held the previous mark with a 2:05.91 set at the Moscow stop of the FINA World Cup this year. Gyurta posted a 2:04.70 in the men's 200 breast to down his national record of 2:05.49 set in 2007.

In other action, Takacs Krisztian won the men's 50 free in 21.71, while Verraszto topped the women's 200 IM in 2:06.98. In the men's 100 back, Adam Szilagyi touched first in 52.32. Gergo Kis walked away with the men's 400 free title in 3:43.26, while Verraszto doubled up with a 53.35 in the women's 100 free. Meanwhile, Zsuzsanna Jakabos claimed the women's 100 breast in 1:07.93.
