Colorado State vs. Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colorado, November 6. THE Colorado State swimming and diving team maintained an undefeated record Friday night as it heads into a month-long competition break. The Rams increased their record to 5-0 after defeating Northern Colorado at Butler-Hancock Swimming Pool, 169.5-108.5.

"On the whole, we came in and did what we wanted to do," said Head Coach John Mattos.

The Rams took a different approach to their swimming tactics, as the first-tier athletes only swam one event and the second-tier athletes became the dominate players of the meet. With the opportunity to shine, Fran Mathias, Shayna Solomon and Kelly Mathews splashed their way into the genre of top performances for the night. Mathias swam the 100 Butterfly in 58.76 seconds, which "is a very good time for this early in the season," according to Mattos.

Solomon continues to give solid performances on the 1- and 3-meter boards. Solomon not only added points to the Rams' overall team score, but she added two more first-place finishes to her personal record.

Mathews' noticeable performance came in the 100 Breaststroke , where the freshman clocked a time of 1:07.83.

CSU had a positive experience against the Bears and will carry that into its month-long competition break, when Mattos will look to concentrate on getting the athletes into a position to perform at a higher level than they have all year.

The Rams will return to the competition pool when they travel to Columbia, Mo., for the Tiger Invite at the Mizzou Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of Missouri, Dec. 4-6.
