Ohio vs. Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio, November 6. THE first meet of a weekend-long trip to Northwest Ohio, the Bobcats were just bested by the Falcons of Bowling Green by a final score of 148-146.

Sarah Owen (Portsmouth, England) swam especially well for the Green and White, winning both the 100 and 200 Backstroke. "Bowling Green performed very, very well today," said head coach Greg Werner. "They raced very well but competed even better across the board."

The Falcons shot out of the gate, winning the first three events. Ohio's team of Katie Power (Ottawa, Ontario), Allison Schaefer (Medina, Oh.), Rachel Heim (San Diego, Ca.) and Annie Donovan (Findlay, Oh.) finished second in the 400 Medley Relay, just three seconds behind the leaders. Petra Chomicz was the first Ohio finisher in the 1000 Free, swimming a 10:40.51. Megan Bomicino of Bowling Green won this event, touching in 10:32.61.

Chelsey Bower (Bethel Park, Pa.) finished second in the 200 Free, only 27 hundredths of a second behind the leader. Owen took the first event for Ohio, winning the 100 Backstroke by over half a second. The Bobcats strung together a solid series of events in the second half of the competition, claiming the first spot in seven of the day's last eight events. Stacey Huber (Gainesville, Fla.) touched first in the 500 Free with a season-best 5:09.29. She was followed by Heim's victories in the 100 Fly and the 200 IM, as the most recent MAC Swimmer of the Week continued her success from last weekend, taking first in both events.

The diving boards were dominated by the Bobcats on Friday, with White City, Saskatchewan, native Lindsay Hamilton's 286.43 on the 1-meter and MaryRose Hillstrom's 255.15 on the 3-meter taking first in both events. Amy Bromberg (Deerfield, Ill.) set a season-best with her 245.02 3-meter score.

"We were successful in seeing some different things that will make us a better team down the line," said Werner. "Hopefully we'll see some of those dividends pay off tomorrow at Toledo."

The Bobcats (2-1, 2-1 MAC) will head to Toledo to face the Rockets Saturday at 1 pm.
