NCAA Div. I: Records Set in Every Event of Day 2 in the Mountain West Champs

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK., Feb. 16 MEET RECORDS fell in all 12 events contested on the second day of competition at the Mountain West Conference Championships, being held in Oklahoma City. Conference
mark tumbled in 11 of those 12 events as Brigham Young University took a commanding lead in the women's team scoring while the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) clung to a narrow 8.5 point lead over BYU in the men's team race.

WOMEN'S EVENTS
Utha freshman Kristen Kaiser broke meet nd conference marks in the 400 yards IM, clocking 4:23.00. Her teammate, Heidi Hausknecht followed with a record 54.58 in the 100 fly, the very next event.

UNLV's Lorena Diaconescu broke her own conference and meet records, clocking 1:46.75 in the 200 free. Her old meet mark was 1:46.92.

BYU senior Jennifer Tasker became the first Mountain West swimmer under 1:03 in the 100 breast when she touched in 1:02.40, while Colorado State freshman Kristen Schroeder clocked a record 55.25 in the 100 back.

UNLV's 800 free relay squad swept to victory with a time of 7:26.74, easily erasing the former records.

MEN's EVENTS
Wyoming sophomore Damian Storr won a close battle to record meet and conference marks in the 400 IM with his 3:55.78. UNLV's Doug Wake followed with a 48.16 clocking to win the 100 fly, a bit slower than his record 48.08 in prelims.

Simon Jacint, a UNLV junior, followed with a record 1:36.27 in the 200 free.

Matt Ihlenfeld, of the Air Force Academy, notched a meet and conference mark with his 54.70 in the 100 breast.

BYU's Arunas Savickas set a meet mark of 48.28 in the 100 back, but it was considerably slower than his conference record of 46.88 set in December 1999.

Finally, BYU's Aaron Russell closed out the record-breaking when he amassed 560.00 points to take the 3 meter diving.
