Japan National Sports Festival: Misaki Yamaguchi Sets Japanese Record, Ryosuke Irie Downs Junya Koga

NAGAOKA, Niigata, Japan, September 12. MISAKI Yamaguchi lowered the Japanese record in the women's 100 free during the second day of the Japan National Sports Festival held in Nagaoka.

Yamaguchi clocked a time of 54.43 to break the Japanese record of 54.88 previously set by Haruka Ueda at the World Championships.

Meanwhile, Ryosuki Irie downed Junya Koga, 52.37 to 52.87, in the men's 100 back finale.

"To win the race was important," Irie said. "With this time, I could come into play in the 100 at the global level."

Irie finished fourth at the World Championships in Rome with a 52.73, falling to Koga's winning time of 52.26.
