Jose Finkel Trophy: Joanna Maranhao Sets South American Record

FLORIANOPOLIS, Brazil, September 5. THE swift swimming continued at the Jose Finkel Trophy meet as Joanna Maranhao took down the women's 200 fly South American record over long course meters.

Maranhao checked in with a 2:09.41 to clip her previous mark of 2:09.48 set in May. Daiene Dias finished second in 2:11.13, while Monique Ferreira clinched third in 2:11.13.

Felipe Silva knocked off Felipe Lima, 27.32 to 27.42, for the men's 50 breast crown. The times proved to be meet records. Joao Luiz Junior touched out Eduardo Fischer, 27.64 to 27.65, for third place.

Kaio Almeida won the men's 200 fly in 1:55.05 for the meet record, coming within a second of his South American record of 1:53.92. Leonardo De Deus placed second in 1:57.73 with Frederico Castro winding up third in 1:58.81.

Alessandra Marchioro won the women's 50 breast in 31.52 after setting the meet record with a 31.44 during prelims. Tatiana Sakemi touched second in 31.97, while Ana Carvalho finished third overall in 32.01.

In distance swimming, Sarah Correa won the women's 1500 free in 17:01.23. Isabelle Longo finished second in 17:06.20, while Maria Ferreira placed third in 17:11.00.

Fernanda Alvarenga, Natalia Favoreto, Maranhao and Daynara Paula won the women's 400 medley relay in a meet-record time of 4:07.57. Meanwhile, Guilherme Guido, Henrique Barbosa, Gabriel Mangabeira and Fernando Silva took home the men's 400 medley relay meet record with a 3:33.01.
