Peaks to Portland Race Renamed

PORTLAND, Maine, September 2. ONE of New England's longest running open water swim races – the annual Peaks to Portland – has been renamed in honor of a longtime supporter of the organization that sponsors the event.

The Cumberland County YMCA announced it would rename the annual Peaks to Portland Swim the Cyrus Hagge YMCA Peaks to Portland Swim.

Hagge, 56, is a longtime YMCA board member and has served as chairman of the board for more than five years. The annual 2.4-mile swim has taken place for the past 29 years and is a fundraiser for the Y's annual campaign. The money raised is used to provide financial assistance to children, adults and families who could not normally participate in YMCA programs.

Hagge, a Great Diamond Island resident, finished 66th out of 220 participants in this year's swim on July 25.
